Date: July 26, 2005 03:19AM Hello Ray, I was diagnosed with a PID one year ago at 46 years of age. I was advised to inform immediate family members to have the initial bloodwork for PID. As it turns out, my father, who is now 80 years old was recently diagnosed. My sister had her preliminary bloodwork done, and will be referred to an immunologist as her IgG level was borderline low. The immunologist indicated that she may be low in subclasses. There are many more family members that require testing. It seems as though the PID in our family is hereditary. Hope that this has been of some assistance. Sue Re: Hereditary ?????????

Date: October 02, 2005 06:05PM Ray, I was diagnosed with CVID 4 years ago and as far as i can tell im the "selected" one in my family. My parents and sister have been tested and are apparently just fine. Not sure how or if it will affect my kids but we will see. Andy Re: Hereditary ?????????

Date: November 11, 2005 04:25AM My uncle has agammaglobulinemia. My mother had IgA deficiency. My mother was actually tested at birth for this because of her brother and all her results came back negative. She was diagnosed at 18 months with the IgA, as she was going to be the doner for a bone marrow transplant for her brother, and tests came back that she had the IgA. Genetic or spontaneous? I've been tested for all deficiencies at 1 year and they came back negative. However some things point to myself actually having some form of deficiency. Chronic tonsillitis, chronic ear infections, constant strep throat, bronchitis, lung infections... Re: Hereditary ?????????

Date: January 02, 2006 02:52AM My mother and father were never tested. My brothers and half-sister have not been tested. My two children, however, were tested; both have IgA deficiency. I have CVID. Re: Hereditary ?????????

Yes, I think they discuss the genes in some paper on the web. I think CVID is harder to find a relative who has it, but in my case, both my mother and I have it, and were diagnosed around the same time. I think my father also may have had a recessive gene, too. My mother and I both take IVIG, foing on two years now. My doctor said I was born with it, and she probably was, too. We both had infections all our life. Hope this helps.
