travel safety and CVID,etc.

Hi everyone, It's been a while since I've been on. I've switched to subcut gammaglobulin. I give myself 50 ml every 4 days.
I am wondering if it is 'safe' to drive to my mother's 80th birthday party. She lives in a nursing home and they want to have the party there. It's a 14 hour drive each way. I also have Addison's disease and a bunch of other illnesses. I'm allergic to nearly every antibiotic so getting sick is really serious. I am also in the midst of the worst part of the allergy season. The health care is 3 to 5 hours from where my mom is. If I had to rate my health, I would rate it as poor. I couldn't take care of my family without the help of my husband and children. What do you guys think? I don't feel I need to see my mom to 'settle' anything. We talk every week, sometimes several times a week. I know she could die anytime, but so could I. My last IgG was "over 500" but I had infused gammaglobulin that they didn't know about, so I don't think that's a very good number. So, what would you do?

Hi Doris,
I feel for you. Is there any way you could get a flight? Where are you if you don't mind me asking? Although I'm sure your mother would love to see you, it's my guess that she would rather feel relieved that you were healthy. What does your husband think?
It is a long drive. Imagine how you would feel if she passed and you hadn't been there with her. Now, imagine how you would feel if you had, but got really sick. If you got sick, it would, I'm sure, have a terrible affect on your husband and children. I think your children need you to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible.
I have just been diagnosed with CVID, but the doctors are baffled as to why I haven't been sick. I cannot put myself in your shoes as my mother passed away in 1997. I was lucky to be with her, but I wasn't sick at the time, and do not have children.
I wish I could give you the answer, but even if I could, it wouldn't be mine to give.
Search your heart, and your mothers. What do you think she would do if the roles were reversed, and how would you feel about her decision? You will be in my prayers, as will your mother & family. God Bless You,

Gerri

Thanks Gerri. I'm so glad for any input. You gave really good advice. (I'm wondering where all the regulars from here have gone? Some have 10 years of experience and I've only been diagnosed since Oct. 2004.)
In some of the past posts, flights have been discussed because of the recycled air during the flights....it also recycles everyone's viruses and we're such lovely hosts.

My mother hasn't been able to visit me in CO because of the elevation. The last time was about 10 years ago when I started getting really sick and my Adrenal glands died, but I was not diagnosed with Addison's Disease or many others.

We visited my parents a few times since then, but the last time I've been there was in 2000 for my Dad's funeral. My health has just spiralled downward.

Some of my kids have recently seen my mom and said that she has a 'distant' look in her eyes, like she wasn't really all there. She has "melded" two of my kids into one, even when one of them was there in person. I know her mind is not good either. I think worse than my siblings are willing to admit. She does recognize my voice on the phone, but whether she remembers talking to me is not known.

My husband does not want to take me because he fears I will have a crisis and die. Just a trip to Colorado Springs or Denver exhausts me for the entire day.

I've asked my allergist and immunologist their opinions and am waiting for their responses and I'm leaving the rest up to God. I know that He will take care of all of the questions and problems if I'll only let Him! (I have a terrible time letting go.)
