i have just been diagnosed with CVID but now they tell me i'm not a canidate for treatment despite all my symptoms, because my levels aren't low enough yet. I have low levels of iga, igg and igm. What is low enough? What are good levels vs. bad levels?

My understanding is that whether or not IVIG will help you depends more on your antibody response than on how low your levels are. My levels weren't as low as a lot of people get, but I had a very poor antibody response to the pneumovax and that meant I could benefit from IVIG. Have they done any antibody tests? They would draw your blood to check antibody levles, administer the vaccine (I think usually pneumovax and/or tetanus, but I may be wrong about that) and then a month later they draw more blood and see if you mounted an antibody response.

My son is nine and was just diagnosed they jsut gave him the pneumoccocal vaccine to see if he makes antibodies. But the doc did say even if he does make the antibodies we may still consider IVIG due to his chronic fatique. He has a low total IgG with a deficiency in only subclass 1. His total IgG was 401.

Oh yea I forgot to mention the doc said that we were lucky that his Iga was not low because sometimes people with that do not tolerate the IVIG. I believe IVIG therapy is only good to IgG levels???
