Hello All
I am 18 and have been diagnosed with CVID in the last year, and under go monthly courses of IVIG. I have been sick for the past five years, like most of you it took a long time for a diagnoses. Ive seen dozens of doctors in every specialty all over California.
I am getting married in July and I want children more than anything. I am having trouble collecting information about CVID and its affect of pregnancy, and children. Can anyone help me?
Thanks
~Teri

I'm 24 and in the same boat as you. I already had a baby when I was 20 but I wasn't getting treatments or showing any signs of CVID at that time. I'm going to ask my docotor about it. I don't think he'll know anything but it's worth a try. Have you asked your doctor?

If anyone else knows anything about CVID and how it affects preganacy please let us know.

Thanx,
Tiffany

Hi! I was diagnosed with CVID in 1997, at the age of 30 (after 10+ years of repeated bouts with bronchitis and pneumonia). I have been receiving IVIG every 4 weeks since then, and have done very well. Like you, I was very concerned about how CVID would affect pregnancy and children. Three months after starting the IVIG treatments, I found out I was pregnant. My doctor referred me to a "high risk" OB/GYN because he wasn't sure how the IVIG affected pregnancy. The OB doctor did alot of research -- there wasn't a whole lot of info on CVID/pregnancy at the time, but he did assure me that the IVIG treatments were very safe during pregnancy, and that it was very important that I continue them on schedule... I am happy to report that, 9 years later, I am blessed with 4 very beautiful, healthy boys (ages range from 3 months to 8 years)!! All four pregnancies were "normal" and very enjoyable. In fact, I never felt better than when I was pregnant -- I was so healthy! (Must have been those prenatal vitamins!)
Talk to your doctor, and keep up with your treatments. I'm living proof that a woman with CVID can have normal pregnancies and healthy babies! smiling smiley
Best wishes to you!

Take care,
Jill

Hi!

I was diagnosed with CIVD during my third pregnancy at which time I began IVIG. My first child had a neonatal pneumonia and my second one had recurrent ear infections in her first year of life. My third child is the healthiest one and I had more energy to take care of all my little family.

I was diagnosed with CVID at age 20 and was receiving infusions for six months whenever I found out I was pregnant. It was a relatively normal pregnancy until my last trimester. I started having unexplainable high blood pressure, swelling, and low platelets. My doctor indused me about three weeks early because my platelets dropped in the 20,000's for my and my son's safety. The day after my son was born, my platelet count began to return to normal, and he was and still is fine.
