Cyclic Neutrpenia and White Blood Cell counts..

Hello all,
I am new to the forum. My Grandson is being diagnosed for possible Cyclic Neutropenia. It is so time consuming and we are so worried. He is 6. He has definite cycles. Every third Thursday he gets his fever. You could set your watch by him. What upsets us most is that they are trying to be sure it is Cyclic Neutropenia and not Leukemia. The last time he got his Thursday fever they tested him to find his White count was low end of normal. Is it possible to have Cyclic Neutropenia and cycle only to the low end of normal or does the disorder always lower WBC to be below normal. It really worries our family as we figure that if the counts are normal (even though low end of normal), it can't be Cyclic Neutropenia and must be Leukemia. Our Doctors will say nothing until the complete study is complete and we are just trying to prepare ourselves as necessary.
Thanks, Charlie's Family

My son was blood tested each week for 13 weeks as he had a serious bout of cellulitis. It turned out that although he was neutropenic for a time, it was not cyclic.

He has now been diagnosed with x-linked hypogammaglobulinaemia (various links on this forum).

If your grandson's count does not confirm that he has cyclic neutropenia, it may be worthwhile having the doctors check his immune system to see if there is anything there. It of course is not necessarily the case, but it may show something up.

I hope that all goes well.
Steve
