Tell me about the Immuno workup

Hi, new here. Glad I found the site.

I've had recurrent sinus infections that are very hard to clear, for at least 10 years. Currently, I've had one since August. I have an ENT who did surgery last year to open the drainages, and things have been a bit better. None of the excruciating headaches like before, now more like pressure when I'm infected. CT scan this week shows signs of infection, but no real structural changes of concern.

He ordered blood test to check my Ig levels. Low normal on IgM, IgG subclass are low in IgG1, low normal IgG2. Referral to an immunologist.

So I have an appointment on Monday to see this new doctor. I have a sketchy outline of what I think may happen at the consult. Can someone walk me through a timeline of how long it may take for a diagnosis and treatment plan? I understand that it may involve one or more vaccinations to see how my immune system responds.

How long (in weeks? months?) did it take before someone is deemed deficient and in need of IVIG??

Thanks in advance for any advice. I am in Colorado in the United States.

Hi there, I am also Igg1 and Igg3 deficient. Its rare to be to be Igg1 deficient, your body does alot of crazy things. It took 18 years befor I finally got some answers!! I have been on the infusions for almost a year. My first immuneologist appointment consisted of, algery tests and questions. Then I was sent for a ton of blood tests, when the results came back, not so good, I only waited a few days to start the infusions. You will be going once a month, I would recomend taking a tylonel and antihistamine befor you go. You will wont feel great after and you will get a mondo headache... You will go for a 6 month trial, then they may take you off to see if you can maintain your levels yourself. If you start feeling rough, make them put you back on. It a very exspensive proceedure, around $5000, so Drs dont like to put you on it unless you really need it, but insist. Befor the infusions I was functioning at %30, now Im at about %70, belive me you will notice a difference, youll be happier, you can think clearer. This is coming from someone who knows excactly where your coming from!!! With this type of illness its hard for people to believe you really are sick!! Well good luck and I hope it works for you...
