gammunex in short supply
Posted by: markincleveland (---.neo.res.rr.com)
Date: January 29, 2008 02:04AM Does anyone have any definitive reasons for the rumored Gammunex shortage that is supposed to last through the middle of 2009?
I'm looking for real documented information, not the host of rumers that we all have heard. Re: gammunex in short supply

Date: July 12, 2008 02:39AM When the treatment is a blood product then the supply is dependent on donation. Talecris (maker of Gamunex) has set up plasma donation sites in an attempt to provide for demand. There is no problem in my area although there was in the past. Pharmacies obtain IVIG products by bidding and allotments. They can go on the "open market" and purchase from those with extra but it is much more expensive. IVIG products can be interchanged but it is not recommended. The products must be close in make-up and should be treated as being given to a patient for the first time. Slowly and with pre-med. Date: July 13, 2008 07:06AM For many years CSL sold plasma to Talecris and its predecessor company. Talecris was forced to open their own plasma collection centers because CSL cut off their supply of plasma. Talecris purchased a chain of collection centers but have had enormous problems getting them certified. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
