Update Summer 2000
Canada has outstanding year!
The Canadian Immunodeficiencies Patient Organisation grew in
leaps and bounds in the last 12 months. We began the year (1999)
with our registration as charity in Canada, and received some nominal
funding from Bayer Canada, which allowed us to get our web page
set up and a 1-800 in service for the organisation.
Our annual meeting last Fall landed smack dab in the middle of
a flu epidemic in Toronto, but despite the small turnout the executive
got a lot accomplished. Members, that were unable to attend, were
sent out binders that outlined all the areas covered during the
meeting.
Other than the usual elections etc., we decided on a pamphlet
for our organisation, and also agreed that the 10 warnings signs
needed to be our first poster published in Canada.
Strangely enough, early this year, Baxter kindly agreed to print
both the poster and pamphlet for us, as well as our newsletters
for the foreseeable future. In fact they are even translating them
for us, so we can print in both French and English. We can't
Thank Baxter enough for all there help and support. The Baxter salesman
(David Goodman) even drops our newsletters off at every PiD clinic
he visits, which I think is really fabulous!
Many other ideas have also been discussed, and certainly our relationship
with Baxter in the years to come will make each one more successful
than the next.
Our organisation has also been very active with blood issues in
Canada, and we have been asked to submit a nominee for a seat on
the board of the "Canadian Blood Safety Council".
We are a very new organisation, but we certainly are making great
headway into becoming a strong and viable entity in Canada. We must
thank all the organisations that came before us, for showing us
how to avoid many of the pitfalls which faced them in their struggles
to become what they are today.
